MLA Style

Every author should avoid plagiarism. This can be done by including the source of writing or
reading. Therefore, a writing will be very trusted the authenticity by its reader. It is also done in honor
of the author of the source of the reading that we take his/her idea. From the reasons already mentioned,
knowing the MLA writing style becomes very important.
MLA (Modern Language Association) style is most commonly used to write papers and cite
sources within the liberal arts and humanities. It is updated to reflect the MLA Handbook (8thed.),
offers examples for the general format of MLA research papers. MLA style specifies guidelines
for formatting manuscripts and using the English language in writing. MLA style also provides writers
with a system for referencing their sources through parenthetical citation in their essays and
Works Cited pages.
Parenthetical or in-text documentation provides source instructions on the works cited list.
The simplest parenthetical reference can be prepared in one of three ways. First, give the author’s
last name (full name in the first reference) in the text of the essay or paper and place the relevant
page number(s) in parentheses following the borrowed material. Second, place the author’s last name
and the relevant page number(s) in parentheses immediately following the borrowed material.
Last, on the rare occasion that you can cite an entire work rather than borrowing from a specific
passage, give the author’s name in the text and omit any page numbers.
MLA style references a bibliography as a works cited page. When typing up your works cited page there are a few things that you should do. Depending on how many sources you have and the type of sources that you used (whether a book, article, or Internet-based source), then you will want to pay special attention to the author’s name, title of the book, publication date, publisher and place of publication.
Documenting sources accurately and fully is required of all researchers. Proper documentation by using MLA format can distinguish between the work of others and your ideas, shows readers the breadth of your research, and strengthens your credibility.
